Nilambhai Patel has made significant contributions in the field of education. He single-handedly managed a hostel in Khoba village through community participation, without any government aid. As a trustee of the Manav Chhayado Trust, he has played a crucial role in the management of Gyan Gangotri Vidyalaya in Kelvani village, Gyan Sarita Vidyalaya in Bamti village, and Gyan Sagar Vidyalaya in Khatana village, all within the Dharampur taluka of Valsad district. He has also contributed significantly to the Andhjan Mandal (Blind People’s Association). Despite these three schools being non-grant-aided, they provide free education to over 250 students from grades 9 to 12.

Over the years, Nilambhai’s workload has considerably increased. Now, with the help of numerous collaborators, his educational endeavors include video schools and a “Para Teacher Project” where teachers provide education within the schools. Additionally, they provide essential educational kits, sports equipment, and library books to needy primary school children.

In 108 villages of Dharampur, they operate an ambulance service, a mobile dispensary service every Friday. We conduct general and eye checkup at these medical camps. Patients with general ailments and those referred for eye issues receive free cataract surgeries. They also provide support for medical equipment in hospitals, including stretchers, oxygen cylinders, and beds during the COVID-19 pandemic, and have facilitated high-tech equipment like X-ray machines and laboratory machines.

For the development and welfare of youth, women, and children, and to make farmers economically self-reliant, they run a tool bank, provide guidance on organic farming, and distribute fertilizers, seeds, and fruit-bearing trees.

Furthermore, they establish a nursery every year and plant and nurture these trees in the forest.

The organization runs an information program in collaboration with Sarvodaya Parivar. This initiative aims to ensure that government schemes reach the people of Dharampur and Kaprada talukas. They assist people in creating necessary documents like Aadhaar cards, e-Shram cards, Ayushman cards, and ABHA cards, providing free lamination and doorstep delivery. They operate an information center to promote government schemes, working tirelessly to ensure people are aware and can avail the benefits. So far, they have helped 35,858 people benefit from various government schemes, including e-Shram cards, Ayushman cards, ABHA cards, old-age pensions, the Niradhar Yojana (scheme for the destitute), the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (girl child prosperity scheme), and the Palak Mata-Pita Yojana (foster parent scheme).

For water conservation in Dharampur taluka, they undertake the construction of check dams, ponds, and wells. To date, they have constructed 89 wells, 68 check dams, and 40 ponds, and have repaired 57 check dams.

They are guiding women towards self-reliance by creating employment opportunities at their doorsteps through animal husbandry, oil extraction from mahua seeds using traditional oil presses, small rice mills, making bags from old clothes, and the papad (crispy flatbread) and papdi (flaky snack) making cottage industry. He has also initiated an anti-addiction campaign and started organizing numerous camps and exhibitions for public awareness on plastic eradication, the POCSO Act, the RTE (Right to Education Act), and the RTI (Right to Information Act).

For his multifaceted social welfare activities, he has received numerous awards and honors from government and private institutions. His achievements are not the result of just a year or two of effort; he has selflessly dedicated himself to uplifting others, and his hard work is bearing fruit. Currently, Nilambhai’s small and large rural development activities have spread across 108 villages in Dharampur and 42 villages in Kaprada taluka. The naturally beautiful Khoba is a serene place where one can experience the essence of Nilambhai’s selfless service.
